Tanya, this one stings. I know it does. You did the work, you saw results show up, maybe a relationship rekindled, or money appeared, or an opportunity landed in your lap, and then it evaporated. And now you’re wondering if you imagined the whole thing, or worse, if the universe is playing some kind of cruel joke on you.
It’s neither. What happened is actually one of the most common and most instructive experiences on this path. And once you understand why it happens, you’ll know exactly how to prevent it.
You Visited the State but Didn’t Move In
This is the distinction that changed everything for me. There’s a difference between visiting a state of consciousness and dwelling in it. When you did your SATS or affirmations or whatever technique you used, you successfully entered the state of the wish fulfilled. Your subconscious accepted it. Reality began to rearrange itself. Your manifestation appeared.
But then what happened? Life happened. Old thoughts crept in. Doubt returned. You started reacting to the 3D world as if the old state were still true. And gradually, you drifted back to the state you were trying to leave.
Neville was crystal clear about this:
“Man must learn to believe in what is not yet visible to the senses. To feel the wish fulfilled and persist in that feeling is to take the creator’s road of self-expression. Persistence is the key. Stay in the assumption, and it will harden into fact.”
– Neville Goddard, Chapter 5
The word “persist” is doing all the heavy lifting in that passage. Entering the state once got the ball rolling. But rolling back into the old state stopped it.
Think of It Like Tuning a Radio
Here’s an analogy that helped me. Imagine your desired reality is a radio station. When you did your SATS, you tuned into that station beautifully. The music played. Your manifestation appeared.
But during the day, your habitual thoughts (worry, doubt, checking, comparing) slowly turned the dial back to the old station. You didn’t do it on purpose. Habits don’t need your permission. They just run.
The manifestation “disappearing” was just the broadcast changing back. The station you want still exists. You just need to stay tuned to it longer.
The Role of the Old Self-Concept
I struggled with this exact thing for months before I understood the deeper layer. It’s not just about the specific desire, it’s about who you believe you are. If you manifest a loving relationship but your self-concept still says “I always get abandoned,” you’ll unconsciously behave in ways that push your partner away. If you manifest money but believe “money never stays with me,” you’ll find ways to lose it.
Joseph Murphy addressed this pattern directly:
“Your subconscious mind is like a bed of soil that accepts any kind of seed, good or bad. Your habitual thinking is the seed. As you sow in your subconscious mind, so shall you reap in your body and environment.”
– Joseph Murphy, Chapter 2
Your technique planted a seed and it sprouted. But the soil (your habitual thinking) was still full of old seeds. Those old seeds kept growing too. The result was a temporary bloom in a garden full of weeds.
How to Make Your Manifestation Stick
1. Catch the Reversion
After your manifestation appears, pay close attention to your inner dialogue. Are you enjoying the fulfilled wish, or are you waiting for the other shoe to drop? Are you thinking “finally, this is my life now” or “I can’t believe this is real, it probably won’t last”?
That second type of thought is the old state trying to pull you back. When you catch it, don’t fight it. Just notice it and gently return to the feeling of naturalness. “Of course I have this. This is who I am now.”
2. Update Your Self-Concept
This is the deeper work. Instead of just manifesting a specific outcome, spend time in SATS feeling yourself as the kind of person for whom this outcome is normal. Not exciting. Not miraculous. Normal.
A person who is wealthy doesn’t gasp every time they check their bank balance. A person who is loved doesn’t panic when their partner is quiet for an hour. Normalcy is the sign that the state has become yours.
3. Stop Monitoring the 3D
After something manifests, the temptation to constantly check on it is enormous. “Is it still here? Is it still working? Are they still interested?” Every time you check with anxiety, you’re broadcasting doubt. Let it be. Live from the assumption that it’s settled.
A Practical Exercise
For the next seven days, I want you to do this brief exercise every morning before you get out of bed:
- While still in that drowsy, just-woke-up state, say to yourself internally: “I am the person who has [your desire]. This is simply who I am.”
- Feel how natural and ordinary that statement is. Not thrilling, ordinary.
- Carry that feeling of ordinariness into your day. When doubt surfaces, remind yourself: “This is just who I am now.”
You’re not doing this to “get” the manifestation. You’re doing it to keep it by making the new state your permanent address instead of a vacation spot.
What This Experience Is Teaching You
Tanya, I know this was painful. But there’s actually good news buried in your experience: your manifestation appeared. That means your technique works. Your imagination is powerful. The law responded to you. You proved the hardest part already.
Now you just need to learn the second half, the persisting, the dwelling, the making-it-normal. And that’s a skill, not a talent. You build it with practice. The fact that your manifestation came at all tells me you have everything you need. You just need to stay.
